Creative Day Services is a facility-based day program designed for adults with developmental disabilities who are ages 18 and over. Operated by Developmental Connections, it is licensed and certified by the Missouri Department of Mental Health, Division of Developmental Disabilities.
Creative Day provides day services, community integration through volunteer opportunities and group outings and life skills training through fun, interactive activities. Music therapy and physical therapy are also offered.
A Person-Centered Approach
Through a Person-Centered Planning approach, the adult day program determines each individual’s needs, goals, and preferences as this relates to independent living, learning, social/recreational, vocational and community activities. Through continuous quality improvement measures, we are constantly measuring the effectiveness of our services as well as satisfaction with our services among persons served and their family members who attend the adult day program.

This year we focused on the MOVE (Mobility Opportunities Via Education/Experience) program. Some of the best interactions we had with consumers happened each time we were able to get a new person into either the Pacer/Gait Trainer or the Tram. This has positively impacted our wheelchair-bound consumers. The first time each of the participants were able to be out of their wheelchairs–and realize they could actually move on their own with assistance from this equipment–was awesome! One participant screamed in fear of the unknown, until they realized they were actually standing on their own feet. Then the huge smile flooded across their face! Another person was so happy they were laughing and jumping all around the room while a staff member was trying to keep up with them. Another consumer was simply put up in the Pacer/Gait Trainer for just a few minutes and started laughing and yelling with happiness.
Each one of these moments was unique and special, so words could not come close to expressing the emotion in the staff who had worked with them for years. Happy tears and smiles are just part of the therapy, I guess! I don’t know many jobs that can make you feel so good about what you do, but this is definitely one of them.
